ServInt experienced a partial network interruption beginning at roughly 4PM EST. The issue was the result of a malfunctioning network switch. The situation was further complicated by the switch not failing cleanly. Instead of failing over to a redundant spare, it began creating anomalous traffic routing issues which impacted a number of the servers in our Reston, VA, facility.
After investigating and diagnosing the issue, ServInt’s engineers located the affected networking device. We then collected the failure data to ensure the switch manufacturer had the information necessary to resolve the issue within their hardware/software — sparing other networks and customers from similar issues and anomalies. The faulty switch was then replaced and network stability was restored, for the impacted portion of the network, just prior to 7PM EST.
Again, we are extremely sorry for the interruption. We are not anticipating any recurring or lingering issues from these complications.
